We’ve come to a point in life where we wear sneakers on a regular basis and mind you, judging by looks from the previous century, that certainly was not the case. Sneakers have existed for years and years, but I don’t think they were ever taken seriously enough until this day and age. People have tended to underestimate just how comfortable and stylish sneakers can actually be. Firstly though, we must establish the difference between sneakers and trainers; one possible way of remembering the difference between the two is that sneakers are the more stylish versions of trainers; trainers are the ones that you would wear to the gym whereas sneakers are the ones that you would wear with a pair of palazzos on a day out.

However, there is one thing that we need to understand, it’s this: we need to actually appreciate sneakers. Recently, sports brands have introduced different varieties of sneaker styles, each designed to be worn for different purposes and to be worn for different outfits and it’s truly is enlightening. The last ten years has seen an exponential increase in the number of sneakers being bought, hence, brands like JD and FootAsylum have been making large profits with lots of success and it’s all down to US.

Currently, designer brands have gone extreme with sneaker designs and what makes it so shocking is the fact that we are all soaking it up and buying trainers that might look appealing, but once worn, don’t actually live up to the price. Let’s take a look at the trendy Balenciagas, for example, who are currently renowned for their sock-trainers - ingenious really, but the price...well, not so much. It is truly fascinating to see the number of people buying them mainly because it is so trendy to be seen wearing them. I mean, ZARA sells a very similar product for less than a quarter of the price! My problem though doesn’t lie with Balenciaga; my problem lies with with society for thinking that the over-powering urge to purchase these shoes are a necessity.

All in all, brands will continue to entice people with their initials stamped on their products and we are all sucked into the cycle of wanting more but for today, the main concern is sneakers and whether we choose to buy them or not is our choice, but these shoes truly are a wonder in disguise.
