'I have my favourite fashion decade, yes, yes, yes: '60s. It was a sort of little revolution; the clothes were amazing but not too exaggerated'
Valentino Garavani
Spring 2018 has been heavily influenced by some mind-blowing trends that make me personally feel quite ruffled at the thought that we haven't taken these trends into consideration before. Over-sized blazers, for example, are actually giving me life right now. Never have I thought of wearing an over-sized blazer on a regular working day, however, it can also be seen to be quite stylish and could potentially be classed as evening wear. A perfect replica of this idea can be seen by none other than the sophisticated Victoria Beckham at London Fashion Week this year. Theoretically, it is quite an iconic, yet influential piece. Me being me means that I won't go out in a mere over-sized suit, but I would however go out in just an over-sized blazer on a skirt - it's an interesting combo.

However, what strikes me most is the fact that in this day and age, we are yet again, resorting to the 60s for some fashion inspiration. This is a wonderful revelation to trends in this current age but what does it mean for future generations?
I'll be brutally honest, we all do love a good 60s vibe going on, but we need to be asking ourselves why we are even going back in time for some fashion inspo. Do we really lack that much creativity that we have to rely on previous generations to help us create new collections that we wear today? Quite frankly, it's a bit disappointing because I feel like there are whole new fashion empires waiting to be discovered and at this rate, if we are to keep resorting to previous eras to design what we wear today, then what will be left for future generations to design? This will just be an endless cycle and soon enough, we'll all be back in ruffs and corsets. Not that ruffs and corsets are necessarily a bad thing, but but we need to asking ourselves what our world-leading fashion brands are bringing to the table. If we take a look at the Duchess of Cambridge this week, she's been rocking the festive plaid trend, but I'm sure we've all seen that print before.

Since we're on the topic of royals, let me add that the Duchess of Sussex is really going all out as she embraces contemporary styles and looks. Her choice of designers is no exception to this and her fashion sense has manifested into something truly memorable. Meghan Markle is another celebrity embracing the over-sized blazer as highlighted on her tour in Australia, and its clearly had a huge impact on the sales internationally.

Going back to the oversized blazer; a simple and stylish piece, yet one that bewilders us all. One moment, you're catching a glimpse of it in a 60s inspired movie, and the next we see these blazers being worn on the red carpet. Which category should we place 60s fashion pieces? What type of function do we wear these pieces to? We all love going back to a particular time period for some fashion inspiration, but it's a once in a while commodity and definitely not your everyday essential.
